Drone Rescues Puppy Trapped on Frozen New Jersey Lake

A 20-month-old Sheepadoodle named Brooklyn was safely rescued after spending nearly a day stranded on a frozen lake in Parsippany, New Jersey. On Christmas Eve, while her owner was out of town, Brooklyn escaped her dogsitter and ventured onto Lake Parsippany. Lonely and cold, she refused all attempts to lure her back to safety, despite offers of chicken. Police officers worked tirelessly throughout the night, attempting to coax her off the thin ice.

Kishan Patel, a resident living on the lake, offered his assistance using his drone. He attempted to entice Brooklyn with chicken, managing to get her within 20-30 feet of the shore before she, frightened by the approaching people, retreated back onto the ice. As darkness fell, Patel’s drone proved invaluable in pinpointing Brooklyn’s location. After assessing the ice’s thickness, an officer cautiously approached, causing Brooklyn to flee the ice and run towards a nearby porch.

There, she was finally found safe and sound. Patel expressed his relief at Brooklyn’s safe return and his empathy for her owner, stating, “I’d be heartbroken.” He also expressed gratitude that his drone was able to contribute to such a positive outcome. Brooklyn is now happily back home.
