Elon Musk said Saturday night that he would restore Donald Trump’s Twitter account.
He came under fire for his decision after 51.8 percent voted for Trump’s return in a Twitter poll.
The former president said he was “not going anywhere” in a post on his social network on Saturday.
His comments to Anti-Defamation League CEO Jonathan Greenblatt came after he criticized Musk’s decision in a series of tweets. “According to @elonmusk Allowing Donald Trump to return to Twitter, ostensibly after a short survey, shows that he is not remotely serious about protecting the platform from hate, harassment and misinformation.
Greenblatt also said, “When @ADL and others #StopHateradiProfit Executives met with Elon Musk on Nov. 1, and he promised not to reshape anyone, regardless of stature, until they establish a transparent, clear process that takes into account the views of civil society.
He added that Musk’s decisions “during the past month were unpredictable and alarming, but this decision is dangerous and a threat to American democracy. We have to ask ourselves – is it time for Twitter to disappear?”
Another user quoted and tweeted the October 28th post where Musk announced would establish a “Content Moderation Council” before making any content moderation or account recovery decisions. On MSNBC The executive producer tweeted: “So much for this whole ‘Content Moderation Council’ thing.”
Musk also announced on Friday that some suspended accounts of Kathy Griffin and The Babylon Bee would be reinstated. In that time, He said the decision regarding the Trump account has not yet been made.
But while some users expressed displeasure with Trump’s return to office, one person said the 45th US president should have “all his former supporters intact.” musk answered that the engineers already worked on it.
Despite saying on his social media app Truth Social on Saturday that he was “not going anywhere,” Trump has yet to make a statement about returning to Twitter since his account was reinstated.
The former president was banned from Twitter after the riots at the Capitol on January 6, 2021.
In May, Musk said it was “not right to ban Donald Trump.” He told the Financial Times at a conference: “I think it was a mistake. It alienated the country and did not result in Donald Trump not having a vote. I think it was a bad moral decision and extremely stupid.”
Twitter and a representative for Donald Trump did not immediately respond to Insider’s request for comment.
