Spencer Boldman will star in a new biopic about country music legend Ronnie Milsap, based on Milsap’s autobiography, “Almost Like a Song.” The film is being packaged by executive producer Gary Negherbon of Negherbon Media Group and Boldman’s manager, Antonia DeNardo. Boldman will also serve as an executive producer.
Milsap, who was born blind, achieved remarkable success as a country crossover singer, incorporating pop, R&B, and rock influences into hits such as “It Was Almost Like a Song,” “I Wouldn’t Have Missed It for the World,” “Any Day Now,” “Smoky Mountain Rain,” and “(There’s) No Gettin’ Over Me.” His accolades include six Grammy Awards and the 1991 Country Music Entertainer of the Year Award. He was also inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2014.
Boldman, known for his roles in Hulu’s “Welcome to Chippendales,” Disney Channel’s “Lab Rats,” “21 Jump Street,” and “Cruise,” has already met with Milsap at his Nashville home and received his blessing for the role. Milsap will also serve as a producer on the film.
Negherbon, whose experience includes managing some of the world’s biggest music artists, expressed his excitement about the project in a statement: “We are so excited that Spencer embraced our project, with the passion and enthusiasm that he has, and I know audiences will be stunned and moved by his portrayal of Ronnie. Hearing Ronnie’s amazing story of survival, determination and ultimate achievement, I knew that this was a story that had to be shared with the world and I can’t wait for audiences to see Spencer in this role.”
Boldman shared his own enthusiasm, stating: “It is an honor for me to help execute Ronnie’s incredible story as well as portray him in the film. Having personally spent time with this living legend and get his blessing, is a gift. I can’t wait to make him and his fans proud.”
Boldman is represented by Antonia DeNardo at Millennium Artists, Coast to Coast, and Derek Kroeger at Myman, Greenspan, Fox, Rosenberg, Mobasser Younger & Light.
