Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars’ “Die With a Smile” Achieves Top Billboard Spot
Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars’ collaborative single, “Die With a Smile,” has claimed the number one spot on the Billboard Hot 100, marking the first chart-topper of the year. This achievement comes after a remarkable 20-week climb to the summit, the longest journey to the top since Teddy Swims’ “Lose Control” reached number one last March after 32 weeks. The Grammy-nominated song, vying for both Song of the Year and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance, debuted at number three in late August and peaked at number two in November before finally securing the top position. Its success is driven by impressive numbers, boasting 59.7 million radio airplay audience impressions and 27 million official streams. This marks Gaga’s sixth number one single and Mars’ ninth.
Rosé and Bruno Mars Continue Chart Success
Bruno Mars makes a second appearance in the Billboard Hot 100’s Top 10 with his collaboration with Rosé, “APT,” reaching a new peak at number five. The song garnered nearly 31 million airplay impressions and 20 million streams, experiencing a significant 23% surge in sales. This achievement represents a major milestone for Rosé of Blackpink, who previously entered the Top 10 with Selena Gomez on “Ice Cream” in 2012. “APT” makes Rosé the first female K-pop artist to reach the Top 5 of the Billboard Hot 100.
SZA’s “SOS” Dominates Album Charts
On the album charts, SZA’s “SOS” maintains its reign as the number one album in the United States for a second consecutive week in 2024. The deluxe reissue, “SOS Deluxe: Lana,” released on December 20th, added 15 tracks, contributing to 130,000 album units and 166 million streams for the complete 38-song set. This reissue propelled “SOS” back to the top nearly two years after its initial release, which also held the number one spot for 10 weeks in 2022 and early 2023. With a current total of 12 weeks at number one, “SOS” now boasts the most weeks at number one for an R&B/hip-hop album by a woman since Whitney Houston’s self-titled album in 1986. SZA hinted on X at even more “Lana” mixes and songs, pending their official release.
Other Notable Chart Performances
Following the holiday season, Kendrick Lamar’s “GNX” returns to number two on the Billboard 200 with 70,000 album units. The album, a surprise release, originally debuted at number one in November, marking Lamar’s fifth number one album. The top 10 also features several Grammy-nominated projects, including Sabrina Carpenter’s “Short n’ Sweet” at number three, Chappell Roan’s “The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess” at number seven, and other notable albums such as the “Wicked” soundtrack, Billie Eilish’s “Hit Me Hard and Soft”, Taylor Swift’s “The Tortured Poets Department”, Morgan Wallen’s “One Thing at a Time”, Gracie Abrams’ “The Secret of Us”, and Tyler, the Creator’s “Chromakopia”.
