Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra expressed their profound sorrow over the tragic loss of security personnel in a brutal Maoist attack in Bijapur, Chhattisgarh. Eight District Reserve Guard (DRG) jawans and a driver were killed when their vehicle was ambushed and destroyed by an improvised explosive device (IED) on Monday.
Rahul Gandhi, in a Hindi post on X (formerly Twitter), conveyed his deep sadness at the “cowardly Naxalite attack,” paying tribute to the fallen soldiers and extending his condolences to their families. He expressed concern over the rising number of soldier deaths, questioning the government’s capacity to effectively address national security threats. He also wished a speedy recovery to any injured personnel.
Priyanka Gandhi echoed these sentiments in a separate Hindi post on X, condemning the terrorism and violence. She offered her heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and prayed for the swift recovery of those wounded in the attack. The nation, she asserted, stands united in its condemnation of such acts.
The attack, which resulted in the deaths of at least nine people, occurred just days after an encounter between security forces and Maoists in Bastar left five insurgents dead. This underscores the ongoing challenges faced by security forces in combating Naxalite insurgency in the region.
