Giants’ Winn Struggles In Return, Rangers Hold Off Sweep

## Giants’ Winn Struggles in Return, as Rangers End Road Trip with 7-2 Loss

ARLINGTON, Texas – The San Francisco Giants’ search for a strong pitching performance from Keaton Winn continued to elude them as the Rangers handed them a 7-2 defeat in the series finale on Sunday afternoon.

### Winn’s Rough Start

Making his return from a three-week absence due to forearm tightness, Winn looked like the same pitcher who landed on the injured list last month. The 24-year-old right-hander surrendered seven runs, five in the first two innings, on seven hits and two walks in just 3.1 innings of work.

The first pitch of the game sailed inside and struck Marcus Semien on the helmet flap, setting the tone for a difficult outing. Winn’s command was off, with just one of his first seven pitches finding the strike zone.

### Rangers Jump Out to a Lead

The Rangers took full advantage of Winn’s struggles, scoring three runs in the first inning and two more in the second. Adolis Garcia’s two-run homer off a first-pitch fastball in the third inning made it 5-0.

### Giants’ Offense Falls Short

The Giants’ offense, which had been producing runs in recent games, was unable to keep up with the Rangers’ onslaught. They managed just two runs on five hits, with Patrick Bailey’s RBI single in the third inning and Mike Yastrzemski’s solo home run in the fourth being their only sources of offense.

### Winn’s Velocity Down

Winn, who regularly hits triple digits with his fastball, saw his velocity drop in his return. Only 12 of his 37 heaters reached 96 mph, and he didn’t hit 97 once.

### Giants Look to Bounce Back

The Giants (32-34) will return home two games under .500, the same mark they were at when they left for their road trip. Manager Bob Melvin expressed confidence that Winn would improve in his next start.

“I expect him to be better next time,” Melvin said. “He’s got good stuff, it’s just about commanding it.”

### Upcoming Schedule

The Giants will open a nine-game homestand on Monday with a three-game series against the Houston Astros, followed by a three-game set against the Los Angeles Angels. LHP Kyle Harrison will take the mound in the series opener against RHP Spencer Arrighetti.
