Enhanced Security Measures at the 82nd Golden Globe Awards
The 82nd Golden Globe Awards, scheduled for Sunday evening at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, will feature significantly heightened security measures. This heightened security comes in response to recent events, including a terrorist attack in New Orleans and a Tesla Cybertruck explosion in Las Vegas, although no direct threat to the Golden Globes has been made public.
Security enhancements will include a substantial increase in personnel from various agencies. The Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department, FBI, and Homeland Security will deploy additional regional and federal officers. Furthermore, snipers will be positioned around the Beverly Hilton, a common practice at Hollywood awards shows but reportedly on a larger scale this year. The Beverly Hills Police Department will also bolster its presence, implementing increased security measures, including additional officers, professional staff, and security contractors.
Attendees will face enhanced security checks, including thorough vehicle searches. An unnamed police source indicated that vehicles, regardless of occupant, will be searched inside and out if deemed necessary. To accommodate the increased security and celebrity arrivals, a major intersection—Wilshire and Santa Monica Boulevards—will be closed to most traffic, impacting surrounding areas.
The ceremony, broadcast live on CBS, anticipates a star-studded guest list including Dwayne Johnson, Nicole Kidman, Kate Winslet, Timothée Chalamet, and Selena Gomez. This year’s awards will feature a significant focus on transgender themes, with best picture frontrunners, *Emilia Perez* and *Conclave*, prominently featuring gender non-conformity in their narratives. *Conclave* has drawn criticism for its portrayal of the Pope as intersex, particularly from anti-Catholic groups.
Despite the increased security and high-profile attendees, the Golden Globes has faced declining viewership in recent years, dropping from approximately 18.4 million viewers in 2020 to just 9.4 million last year. Organizers hope that host Nikki Glaser’s comedic style will attract a larger audience.
