HOUSTON – Authorities are investigating an attempted robbery in north Harris County that took an unexpected turn. A man was the victim of an attempted robbery by four young children, but he ended up shooting them.

According to Major Suarez with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred just after midnight. Officers responding to a call at an apartment complex on N Houston Rosslyn off Hwy 249 found a young child with multiple gunshot wounds. The child’s age has not been released. Emergency crews transported the child to a nearby trauma center where, at last check, he was undergoing surgery.

During the investigation, officers discovered two more young children with gunshot wounds. The man who shot them arrived at the scene and turned himself in. Preliminary evidence suggests the man was being robbed at gunpoint by four children, aged between 12 and 14. He then fired his weapon, injuring his would-be robbers.

Three children were taken to the hospital; two are reportedly in stable condition. The fourth child, along with the man who shot them, is in custody and cooperating with the investigation.

Initial reports indicated the children were using BB guns, but Major Suarez stated this has not been confirmed. Deputies did recover several guns from the scene and are currently processing them.

It remains unclear who will face charges. The investigation is ongoing.
