Maui police are investigating the discovery of a body in the wheel well of a United Airlines plane that landed in Kahului Airport on Tuesday. The airline confirmed in an emailed statement that the body was found in the wheel well of a Boeing 787-10 aircraft, flight 202, arriving from Chicago. United stated that the wheel well is only accessible from outside the plane and that the circumstances surrounding how and when the person entered it are unclear.
The Maui Police Department issued its own statement, indicating an active investigation into the matter. Neither the airline nor the police department provided further details. Inquiries to Kahului Airport directed the Associated Press to a public affairs officer for the state department of transportation, who confirmed that they had no information beyond what United had already released.
