HOUSTON – We’re tracking another warm day on Christmas Eve ahead of a cold front that brought rain, thunderstorms, and even hail in the afternoon. Click2Insiders sent us videos and pictures of the hail from Cypress, Texas.
Now that the afternoon storms have passed, we’ll continue tracking the chance for more severe weather tonight into Christmas morning. Christmas Eve will see a chance of rain and thunderstorms continuing Tuesday night into Wednesday morning. Storms are expected to continue through the overnight hours. Don’t worry about Santa though – Rudolph and the team have seen much worse!
Expect noisy thunderstorms overnight with strong wind gusts, lightning, and heavy rain for short periods (less than an hour). The line of storms will move quickly enough to minimize flooding concerns; most rainfall totals will be between half an inch and an inch. Some ponding on roads is possible, but nothing major is anticipated.
If you’re headed to the Texans game on Wednesday, there’s a slight chance of lingering showers, but the forecast should turn partly cloudy around noon with temperatures in the 70s.
We’ll warm up this week, meaning there’s a 0% chance of a white Christmas. Temperatures will remain above average as we approach the end of 2024, though still below our warmest Christmas ever (83° in 2015).
