HOUSTON – We’re tracking another warm day on Christmas Eve ahead of a cold front that brought rain, thunderstorms, and even hail in the afternoon. Click2Insiders sent us videos and pictures of the hail from Cypress, Texas.

Now that the afternoon storms have passed, we’ll continue monitoring the potential for more severe weather tonight into Christmas morning. Expect a chance of rain and thunderstorms Tuesday night into Wednesday morning. Currently, we anticipate storms continuing through the overnight hours. Don’t worry, Rudolph and Santa’s team are experienced with much worse weather!

These storms could bring noisy thunderstorms overnight, with strong wind gusts, lightning, and heavy rain for short periods (less than an hour). However, the system will move quickly enough to minimize flood concerns. Most rainfall totals will be between half an inch and an inch, with some possible ponding on roads, but nothing major.

If you’re heading to the Texans game on Wednesday, there’s a slight chance of lingering showers, but the forecast should turn partly cloudy around noon with temperatures in the 70s.

We’ll see warmer temperatures this week, meaning a 0% chance of a white Christmas. Temperatures are expected to remain above average as we approach the end of 2024, though still below our warmest Christmas (83° in 2015).
