A woman is spending the holidays in Harris County Jail, accused of cruelly confining a 7-year-old girl in a dog cage under her Christmas tree. Rose Anderson appeared before a Harris County Magistrate on Sunday, though the alleged incident occurred on or around December 13th. Anderson and the victim are reportedly relatives.

Court documents state Anderson’s alleged motive was to discipline the child for her behavior at school. Houston police allege that Anderson not only locked the girl in the cage but also kicked her while she was inside. Furthermore, Anderson is accused of restraining the child with zip ties and duct tape over her mouth.

The magistrate set Anderson’s bond at $10,000 on the charge of unlawful restraint. She remained in Harris County Jail on Sunday evening. Court records indicate she is a single mother working three jobs. For more updates on this story, follow Shannon Ryan on Facebook, X, and Instagram.
