Hyderabad's New Rail Terminal Opens: City's Transport Boosted

Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually inaugurated the newly constructed Cherlapalli Railway Terminal in Hyderabad on Monday. This ₹413 crore project marks a significant milestone in the city’s infrastructure development, becoming its fifth major railway station after Nampally, Secunderabad, Kacheguda, and Lingampally. The terminal’s strategic location near the Outer Ring Road (ORR) is expected to significantly improve connectivity within the Hyderabad-Secunderabad region, boosting overall regional development.

The Prime Minister highlighted the terminal’s modern amenities, including nine platforms (four newly added), elevators, escalators, and solar-powered operations, as examples of India’s commitment to sustainable infrastructure. He emphasized that the Cherlapalli terminal represents a step forward in enhancing the ease of living and doing business in the region, further underscoring the government’s broader initiatives to modernize India’s infrastructure, encompassing canal systems, metro networks, and expressways. With a capacity to handle up to 20 long-distance trains, the terminal is a crucial addition to Hyderabad’s transportation network, aiming to alleviate congestion at existing stations.

Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, participating virtually, expressed his gratitude to the Prime Minister for the project’s completion. He also used the opportunity to request the sanctioning of additional railway projects, including a new line between Kalwakurthi and Macherla, a new line from Vikarabad to Krishna, and extensions from Dornakal, believing these would further propel the state’s economic progress.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by a distinguished gathering, including South Central Railways (SCR) General Manager Arun Kumar Jain, IT and Industries Minister D. Sridhar Babu, Union Minister and Telangana BJP president G. Kishan Reddy, and Governor Jishnu Dev Varma.
