HYDRAA Demolishes Madhapur's Illegal Buildings
On Sunday, the Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Monitoring and Protection Agency (HYDRAA) demolished a seven-story illegal building in Madhapur’s Ayyappa Society. The demolition, carried out under strict security with the assistance of the Disaster Response Force (DRF) and Revenue authorities, followed a Telangana High Court directive ordering the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) to remove the unauthorized structure.

HYDRAA Commissioner AV Ranganath explained that the building’s construction violated numerous regulations. He stated that the builder had attempted to evade previous demolition orders by sealing holes in the building’s slab before continuing construction of seven illegal floors. A contempt petition regarding this unauthorized construction is currently before the High Court.

Commissioner Ranganath emphasized the widespread issue of illegal constructions in Ayyappa Society, many lacking necessary approvals. HYDRAA will prioritize demolishing buildings specifically flagged by the court. He expressed concern over the numerous illegal structures housing students and employees, many lacking basic safety features and fire safety clearances.

Moving forward, HYDRAA will collaborate with the GHMC to address the broader problem of unauthorized construction in the area. A comprehensive review of existing structures is underway, with further action to be taken based on its findings. Furthermore, HYDRAA will submit a detailed report to the state government identifying officials responsible for permitting the now-demolished building’s construction. The report will also highlight the illegal conversion of the building’s cellar into a kitchen, lacking fire department approval, and the absence of proper parking facilities, both contributing to significant safety and regulatory violations.
