A Life Devoted to Love, Service, and Faith

With profound sadness, we mourn the passing of Ileen Elaine Daniels, a cherished mother, wife, and community pillar who passed away peacefully on May 7, 2024, in the presence of her loving family. Ileen’s remarkable life was a testament to the unwavering love she shared, the selfless service she provided, and the deep faith that guided her every step.

Roots in Northern California and a Family’s Love

Ileen Elaine Daniels was born on July 15, 1952, in the vibrant city of Oakland, California. As the firstborn daughter of Richard and Beverly Daniels, she grew up in a loving and supportive home. The family relocated to Chico, California, where Ileen spent her formative years, surrounded by the warmth of her brothers, Steve and Jeff. Her childhood was filled with laughter, adventure, and the unwavering bond of family.

Academic Achievements and a Passion for Healthcare

Ileen’s academic journey began at Pleasant Valley High School, where she excelled as a dedicated student. She graduated in 1971, embarking on her higher education at Chico State University. Ileen pursued a Bachelor’s degree in Home Economics and Business, envisioning a future dedicated to teaching. To support her academic pursuits, she worked diligently at Community Hospital in Chico, gaining valuable experience in the X-ray and ER departments.

Navigating Heartbreak and Finding Strength

Amidst the promise of her early adulthood, Ileen faced a profound personal loss. Her beloved fiancĂ©, Bill Warnock, tragically passed away in an automobile accident. This heartbreaking event left a void in Ileen’s life, but it also ignited within her a resilience that would shape her future. She found solace in her family and the unwavering support of Bill’s parents, who became her lifelong confidants.

A Second Chance at Love and the Joy of Motherhood

Fate led Ileen to Portland, Oregon, where she met Jim Cupido, a Paramedic student and Navy veteran. Their shared experiences in the healthcare field forged a deep connection, and they soon became engaged. Ileen and Jim were united in marriage, a testament to the enduring power of love. Their union brought forth two beautiful daughters, Serafina and Amie, who became the center of Ileen’s world.

Returning to Roots and Embracing a New Career Path

With the desire to raise their children close to family, Ileen and Jim decided to return to Northern California. They settled in Oroville, where Ileen resumed her career in healthcare. Driven by a desire to expand her knowledge and skills, she pursued her education in X-ray Technology at Yuba College, graduating with honors in 1985. Ileen’s dedication to patient care and her compassionate spirit led her to a successful career at OANC, where she served for over 35 years, eventually becoming an MRI technician.

A Deepening Faith and a Commitment to Service

Ileen’s spiritual journey took a significant turn in 1984, when she joined the Catholic faith. She was baptized, confirmed, and received Holy Communion at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Oroville. This profound experience ignited a deep and unwavering faith that became the cornerstone of her life. Ileen actively participated in her church community, serving as a Girl Scout leader, 4-H parent for her daughters, and Teacher’s Helper at St. Thomas School. Her passion for serving others extended beyond her family, as she dedicated countless hours to the church, including organizing the CRAB FEED, OCTOBERFEST, and SPRINGFEST.

Enjoying Retirement and Sharing Her Talents

In her retirement years, Ileen continued to share her time and talents with her community. She joined the Catholic Ladies Relief Society, becoming Secretary for both that group and the St. Thomas Finance Council. Her hobbies included gardening, sewing, baking, and any other craft project she could imagine. Ileen’s creativity and generosity extended to her family and friends, who were always delighted to receive handmade gifts and delicious treats.
