Lorell was born on September 25, 1938, in the heart of Cullman, Alabama, to Thomas Perry and Allie Beatrice Young Jacobs. Growing up in a close-knit family, she developed a deep sense of belonging and community spirit that would shape her entire life.
Early Life and Family
From a young age, Lorell demonstrated a passion for life and a commitment to education. She excelled in her studies and graduated with honors from Cullman High School. It was during this time that she met the love of her life, William “Bill” Powell. Their love story was one for the ages, filled with laughter, support, and unwavering devotion.
Lorell and Bill married in 1958 and embarked on a journey that would span over five decades. Together, they raised a beautiful family, instilling in their children the same values of hard work, compassion, and love for their community that had guided Lorell’s own life.
Community Involvement
Lorell’s passion for her community was evident in her tireless efforts to make a difference. She was a dedicated volunteer for numerous organizations, including the Cullman County Council on Aging, the Cullman Area Chamber of Commerce, and the American Red Cross.
Lorell’s leadership and commitment earned her widespread recognition and admiration. She was honored as the Cullman Woman of the Year in 2005 and received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Cullman County Council on Aging in 2018.

Funeral Arrangements
Funeral services for Lorell Powell will be held on Friday, July 5, 2024, at Moss Service Funeral Home Chapel at 2 p.m. Interment will follow in Fellowship Cemetery at Springhill.
The family welcomes friends and members of the community to join them in celebrating Lorell’s extraordinary life and legacy.
