Michael “Mike” Edward McGrain Obituary

Michael “Mike” Edward McGrain, age 56, born in DeKalb, IL on January 22, 1968, to Jean and the late Leo McGrain, passed away unexpectedly on July 23, 2024, in Waukesha, WI.

Mike grew up in a loving home in Antioch, IL where he began his love for sports, music, dancing, and an appreciation for classic cars. He graduated from Antioch High School and then earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Wisconsin-Parkside in 1991. He later began working with at-risk youth and coaching baseball, which he thoroughly enjoyed for several years.

A Family Man

Mike followed the love of his life, Tatiana Gonzalez, to Waukesha, WI, where they married in 1992. They later separated but continued to work hard together to raise their amazing son, Elijah. In 2019, Mike pursued his dream of living in Arizona where he began his next career at The Hartford, and shortly became one of the top salesmen in the country due to his ability to connect and his gift of gab. He later met his special friend and love, Kristen Albin, where they were able to enjoy his favorite activities all year round together.

An Active Lifestyle

Mike loved winning at pickleball, going on bike rides, playing tennis, golfing, swimming, hiking, watching Bears football & Cubs baseball, and of course, spending time with his beloved son Elijah.

A Loving and Caring Soul

Mike was known to his friends and family as an affectionate, compassionate, and devoted father, brother, uncle, and son. His laugh and smile were contagious and brought a light to every room he walked into; always bringing positivity and fun to every person he crossed paths with.

Legacy and Remembrance

Mike is survived by his son, Elijah McGrain; loving mother, Jean McGrain; brothers, Matt (Debbie) McGrain and Don (Michele) McGrain, along with several nieces and nephews. Mike will be joining his father (Leo) and brother (Brian) in heaven.

A memorial visitation to honor Mike’s life will be held on Saturday, August 17, 2024, at Strang Funeral Home, 1055 Main St (Rte. 83) Antioch, IL 60002 from 12 pm-3 pm. Please feel free to wear your Chicago sports attire in the spirit of Mike.
