Lloyd Keffer, Veteran and Community Figure, Passes Away at 90

On June 4, 2024, at the age of 90, Lloyd L. Keffer of Mohnton passed away peacefully at the Reading Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He leaves behind a legacy of service and community involvement that will be remembered for years to come.

A Life of Service

Lloyd was a dedicated veteran of the United States Army, serving for 20 years during both the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He rose to the rank of CW4 before retiring from active duty. His military service left an indelible mark on his life, shaping his values and unwavering patriotism.

Family and Community

Lloyd was a devoted husband to his wife Diane, with whom he shared many happy years. He was also a loving father to his son, Paul, and daughter, Kathleen. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought him immense joy and filled his life with laughter.

Beyond his family, Lloyd was actively involved in his community. He was a lifelong member of Salem Shalter’s Lutheran Church, where he served in various capacities. His commitment to his faith inspired him to give back to those in need.

Professional Accomplishments

Lloyd pursued higher education after his military service, earning a degree in Business Management from Reading Area Community College and a secondary degree in Transportation from Alvernia University. He worked as a store room supervisor at Interstate Container and a manager of the shipping dock at Exide Battery.

Lloyd also served as a rural mail carrier for the United States Postal Service in Mohnton, where he was known for his friendly demeanor and reliable service.

Legacy of Giving

Lloyd Keffer will be remembered as a man of integrity, compassion, and unwavering service. His contributions to his family, community, and country will continue to be felt for generations to come.

Memorial Arrangements

A memorial service for Lloyd Keffer will be held at Salem Shalter’s Lutheran Church on Tuesday, June 11, 2024, at 10:00 am. Reverend Mary Gade will officiate. Interment will follow at Salem Shalter’s Church Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Children’s Home of Reading at 1010 Centre Ave. Reading, PA 19601 in memory of Lloyd L. Keffer.
