Former NYPD Chief of Department Jeffrey Maddrey’s attorney, Lambros Lambrou, held a press conference Friday to address allegations of sexual harassment and quid pro quo involving Lieutenant Quathisha Epps. Lambrou stated that Maddrey had a brief, consensual relationship with Epps, a “self-professed swinger,” who is currently under internal investigation for excessive overtime pay. He vehemently denied any connection between the relationship and the $200,000 in overtime Epps received, asserting that Maddrey had no role in approving or assigning overtime. Lambrou highlighted that over 415 NYPD employees earned over $100,000 in overtime last year, emphasizing that many in Maddrey’s office received overtime for legitimate work. He further accused Epps of attempting to deflect from her own wrongdoing by making these allegations. Lambrou presented evidence of Epps initiating contact with Maddrey through numerous text messages, photos, and videos, claiming this demonstrates her attempts to pursue a relationship. He also stated that Maddrey, now a practicing attorney, will vigorously defend his reputation. Lambrou refuted a news report claiming Maddrey had fled to Georgia, confirming his presence at the press conference.
Epps’s attorney responded to the press conference, calling Maddrey a “clown” and indicating possession of substantial digital evidence to support their case. Multiple investigations are underway, including federal and state probes into the NYPD and Maddrey, as well as a city Department of Investigation inquiry into overtime payouts. Maddrey’s attorney confirmed that the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office has not yet contacted them.
