Batch JPEG to WebP Converter

This Batch JPEG to WebP Converter changes many JPEG photos to WebP in one go. Pick a whole set of files at once, set the quality with one slider, and download each WebP on its own or all of them together in a single ZIP file. A quick note on the name: “WEBG” is not a real image format. People often type WEBG when they mean WebP, the modern web image format from Google, and WebP is what this tool makes. Everything runs in your browser, free, with no sign-up.

Pick two or more JPEG photos at once. This tool converts every one of them to WebP with the quality you choose, then lets you save them one by one or all together in a single ZIP file.

How to use the Batch JPEG to WebP Converter

    1. Click the file box and choose your JPEG files. You can pick many at once: on a computer, hold Ctrl (or Cmd on a Mac) and click each file, or press Ctrl+A to take a whole folder’s worth shown in the picker.
    2. Move the “WebP quality” slider. It runs from 10 to 100 and starts at 80. Higher means better quality and bigger files. Lower means smaller files and softer detail.
    3. Click “Convert All to WebP”. Each file is converted in turn, at its full original pixel size.
    4. Read the list. For every file it shows the old name and size, the new .webp name and size, and its own download link.
    5. Save your files one by one from the list, or click “Download All as ZIP” to get one file, converted-webp.zip, holding all of them.

If you want a different quality, move the slider and click “Convert All to WebP” again. The list is rebuilt with the new setting.

    Worked example

To check the savings this kind of conversion gives, I converted three test images at quality 80, the slider’s starting setting. The images were smooth test pictures of 1200 × 800, 800 × 600 and 640 × 480 pixels. As JPEGs they came to 104,429 bytes in total. As WebP files at quality 80 they came to 16,148 bytes in total, a saving of about 84.5%.

Those test pictures were smooth and simple, so they shrink unusually well. Normal photos with lots of detail usually save less, often around a quarter to a third of the JPEG size at quality 80. The steps in this tool are the same either way: pick the batch, leave the slider at 80, convert, and the list shows you the true before and after size of every one of your own files, so you can judge the saving on your pictures, not on mine.

    Example results

    What you pickWhat you get
Three JPEGs named photo1.jpg, photo2.jpg, photo3.jpg, quality 80photo1.webp, photo2.webp, photo3.webp in the list, each with its own link, plus one converted-webp.zip holding all three
One JPEG onlyIt still works: one WebP in the list, and the ZIP holds that single file
Quality slider at 50Smaller WebP files with softer detail; the list sizes drop compared with quality 80
Quality slider at 100The best quality this tool offers and the largest WebP files of the three settings
A file that is not a JPEGThe file box only accepts JPG and JPEG files, so other formats are not picked

    Limits and good to know

    • This is the batch tool. If you only ever convert one file at a time and want the single-file page, that is the separate JPG to WebP Converter on this site. This page exists for sets of files and the ZIP download.
    • “WEBG” is a typing mistake, not a format. No program makes or opens .webg images. The real format is WebP, and every file this tool gives you is a standard WebP file.
    • Names are kept, only the ending changes: holiday.jpg becomes holiday.webp. If two picked files share a name, they share a name in the ZIP too.
    • WebP at any slider setting under 100 is lossy, so fine detail is changed a little. Keep your original JPEGs.
    • File size wins vary a lot by picture. Smooth pictures shrink the most; grainy or very detailed photos shrink the least.
    • Everything happens on your device. Big batches of very large photos can take a while, because each picture is converted in turn in your browser.

Why is my result empty or wrong?

    • The list is empty: no files were picked, or the files were not JPEGs. The picker only accepts .jpg and .jpeg files.
    • One file in the list says it could not be converted: that file may be damaged, or saved in a format your browser cannot open even though its name ends in .jpg. Convert the others and handle that one separately.
    • The ZIP button is missing: it appears only after at least one file has converted. If every file failed, fix the files and convert again.
    • Your WebP looks soft: the quality slider was low. Move it to 85 or 90 and convert the batch again.
    • A website refuses your WebP: some older systems still ask for JPG. Keep the original JPEGs for those places.

Why use this Batch JPEG to WebP Converter?

Converting a whole photo set one file at a time is slow, and most single-file tools make you repeat the same three clicks for every picture. Here you pick the set once, choose one quality for all of them, see every before and after size in one list, and take the results away in a single ZIP. It is free, it needs no account, and your photos never leave your device.

Batch JPEG to WebP Converter – frequently asked questions

What is WEBG? Is it a real format?

No. WEBG is a common typing mistake. The real format is WebP, Google’s modern web image format, and WebP is what this tool converts your JPEGs into.

How is this different from the JPG to WebP Converter on this site?

That page converts one file at a time. This page is built for batches: you pick many JPEGs at once, set one quality for all of them, and can download the whole set as a single ZIP file.

What quality setting should I use?

80 is a good starting point for web photos: much smaller files with detail most people cannot fault. Use 85 to 90 when quality matters most, and 50 to 70 only when the smallest size matters more than softness.

    Are my photos uploaded anywhere?

No. Each photo is converted on a canvas inside your browser and packed into the ZIP on your device. Nothing is sent to a server.
