Obituary

Judith A. Shurr, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away on May 17, 2024, at the age of 81.

Born Judith Ann Schlaybach in Reading, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late Charles F. and Lucy E. Schlaybach. Judith attended Reading High School and went on to work various jobs throughout her life, including at the Reading Laundry, as an aide in the Exeter School District, and for over 20 years at Boscov’s.

Judith was a devoted member of Exeter Bible Church and shared a lifelong passion for NASCAR racing with her late husband, Gene P. Shurr, who passed away in 2012.

Known as the “cat whisperer,” Judith adored cats and had a special way with both her own and the neighborhood strays.

Judith will be deeply missed by her daughter, Judi L. Perkins, widow of Steven Perkins, of Exeter, and her grandchildren, Matthew R. Perkins of Indianapolis, IN, and Michael J. Perkins of Exeter. She was predeceased by her husband, parents, and siblings: Lucy J. Mangrum, Alice L. Young, Ruth E. Williams, Aprile L. Schaeffer, and Frank C. Schlaybach.

Funeral Service

A funeral service for Judith will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 21, 2024, at the:

739 Penn Ave., West Reading, PA 19611

Committal will follow at Forest Hills Memorial Park.

Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 10:00 a.m. until the start of services.
