King's Monkey Trailer: Ratings Report Drops Wednesday

A new trailer for the Stephen King adaptation *The Monkey* arrives this Wednesday, but before its release, the Motion Picture Association (MPA) ratings board report on the trailer has been shared.

The film, produced by James Wan and directed by Osgood Perkins (*The Blackcoat’s Daughter*, *I Am the Pretty Thing That Lives in the House*), is based on a King short story. Production wrapped in March, and Neon will release *The Monkey* theatrically on February 21, 2025. A teaser trailer has already been released, but this Wednesday marks the debut of the full trailer.

Perkins adapted King’s story, which follows twin brothers, Hal and Bill. After discovering their father’s old monkey toy in the attic, a series of gruesome deaths plagues their lives. Attempting to escape the curse, the brothers discard the toy and grow apart. However, when the deaths resume, they must reunite to destroy the malevolent monkey before it claims more victims. Theo James portrays the adult twins, while Christian Convery plays them as children. The cast also includes Elijah Wood, Tatiana Maslany, Colin O’Brien, Rohan Campbell, and Sarah Levy.

James Wan, known for his work in the horror genre, stated, “Stephen King is the godfather of the horror genre… *The Monkey* is a personal favorite, with its simple, iconic, and incredibly marketable conceit.” He lauded Perkins as the perfect choice to bring this story to life. Beyond his directorial credits, Perkins has also written screenplays for several films including *Removal* and *Cold Comes the Night*.

The MPA has rated *The Monkey* R for strong bloody violent content, gore, pervasive language, and some sexual references. The report on the upcoming trailer is included below [insert MPA report image here].
