Bomb Threat at Lakewood Church Results in Arrest
On Christmas Eve, a man was arrested and charged with a felony after threatening to detonate a bomb at Lakewood Church in Houston, Texas. Houston Police Department officers responded to the church around 7 p.m. following a call from a man who threatened to “blow up the church” with a device containing Sarin nerve gas. At the time of the threat, the church was hosting an event with over 5,000 attendees.
Authorities quickly identified the suspect, 33-year-old Aaron Suppes, by linking him to a previous call made earlier that day. Court documents reveal Suppes has been homeless for at least the past year. Upon arrival, officers briefed the church’s security team and apprehended Suppes. A bomb squad and Houston Fire Department hazmat team examined duffel bags he had brought to the church, but found no explosive devices.
Suppes has been charged with making a terroristic threat and is being held on a $25,000 bond. This incident follows a shooting at Lakewood Church less than a year ago that resulted in two injuries.
