Lakewood Church Bomb Threat Leads to Arrest

Bomb Threat at Lakewood Church Results in Arrest

HOUSTON, TX – A man was taken into custody on felony charges on Christmas Eve after threatening to detonate a bomb at Lakewood Church. Houston Police Department (HPD) officers responded to the church around 7 p.m. following a call from a man who threatened to “blow up the church” with a device containing Sarin nerve gas.

Authorities quickly identified the suspect by linking him to a previous call made earlier that day. The nature of the first call remains unclear. Upon arrival, officers briefed Lakewood Church security, and the suspect was apprehended shortly thereafter. A bomb squad and Houston Fire Department hazmat team examined several duffel bags the suspect had brought, but no explosive devices were found.

The Harris County District Attorney’s Office accepted third-degree felony charges against the suspect. This incident follows a shooting at Lakewood Church less than a year ago that left two people injured.
