Lombard Launches Illinois' First Drive-Thru DMV Kiosk
Illinois’ first drive-thru DMV kiosk has opened, offering 24/7 access to vehicle services. Located at the Lombard driver services facility (837 Westmore-Meters Road), the kiosk allows drivers to renew registrations, obtain license plate stickers, and update their license plate information without leaving their vehicles. This new service, provided by the Illinois Secretary of State’s office, aims to improve convenience for residents with busy schedules, according to Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias. More drive-thru kiosks are planned for Chicago and across the state, with over 100 slated for installation within the next 18 months.

The Lombard kiosk complements fifteen similar kiosks installed in grocery stores earlier this fall, although those are limited to store operating hours. The Lombard DMV’s reopening, which includes the drive-thru, also features a redesigned layout. Relocated within the Eastgate Shopping Center, the facility is one of the state’s busiest, handling a large volume of vehicle and driver-related transactions annually. It’s also a “one-stop shop” DMV, with cross-trained employees and multiple payment stations to reduce wait times. The Lombard location will further offer administrative hearings for suspended licenses and is expected to add 18 electric vehicle charging stations next year. Appointments are required for in-person driver services inside the building (not the drive-thru) and can be scheduled at ilsos.gov.
