Lombard welcomes Illinois' first drive-thru DMV kiosk.

Illinois’ first drive-thru DMV kiosk has opened at the Lombard driver services facility, located at 837 Westmore-Meters Road. This 24/7 kiosk, provided by the Illinois Secretary of State’s office, allows drivers to renew registrations and licenses, and obtain license plate stickers from the convenience of their vehicles.

Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias stated that this new service creates a more convenient option for residents, particularly those with busy schedules. He also announced plans to open additional drive-thru kiosks in Chicago and across the state, with over 100 slated for installation within the next 18 months.

While fifteen similar kiosks were installed in grocery stores earlier this fall, these are limited by store hours. The Lombard drive-thru kiosk is part of the recently reopened and relocated Lombard DMV within the Eastgate Shopping Center. This facility, one of the state’s busiest, processed 134,000 vehicle transactions and 125,000 driver-related services last year.

The Lombard DMV is also a “one-stop shop,” featuring cross-trained employees handling both driver and vehicle services, and increased payment stations to reduce wait times. Further, it will host administrative hearings for suspended licenses and is expected to add 18 electric vehicle charging stations next year. Appointments are required for in-person driver services (not the drive-thru) and can be scheduled at ilsos.gov.
