Dixie Jane White McKeithen, a beloved wife, mother, and respected Southern Gospel music artist and songwriter, passed away peacefully on June 22, 2024, at the age of 77. Born on November 4, 1946, she leaves behind a legacy of faith, music, and unwavering love.
Dixie was devotedly married to Timothy McKeithen for 58 years and 4 months. Their enduring relationship, forged at Bible College in Tupelo, Mississippi, was built on shared faith and a mutual love of music. She was a loving mother to their daughter, Angelina McKeithen. Growing up without siblings, Dixie shared a deep sisterly bond with her cousin, Bonnie White, a connection that lasted a lifetime.
Dixie’s contributions to the Southern Gospel music industry were substantial. She sang, wrote songs, produced, and ultimately, booked artists. Her career included cherished stints with several prominent groups: The Gospel Keys, The Hemphills, and The McKeithens, the latter of which she toured with for 21 years alongside Tim and Angelina. During those years, she played piano, sang, and contributed significantly to the group’s songwriting and arrangements.
Following her retirement from touring, Dixie dedicated herself to the Beckie Simmons Agency (BSA), a leading booking agency for Southern Gospel artists. She played an instrumental role in scheduling and managing artist tours, becoming a beloved member of the BSA family.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Dixie’s life was defined by her unwavering faith. A member of Cornerstone Church and later a devoted online attendee of World Outreach Church, she readily offered her time and support to others. Known for her warm hospitality, she frequently hosted gatherings at her kitchen table, extending her generosity to those in need, informally adopting individuals lacking family connections for holidays and special meals.
Dixie was remembered for her infectious laugh, kindness, straightforwardness, and unwavering support of family and friends. Her deep faith was evident in her actions, demonstrating a love that touched many lives. She will be profoundly missed.
A graveside memorial service celebrating Dixie’s life will be held at Christ Church Memorial Gardens on Thursday, June 27, 2024, at 2:00 p.m.
