WEATHER ALERT: Tornadoes Touch Down in Southeast Texas
HOUSTON – Less than 24 hours after Santa Claus’s Houston visit, severe storms and reported tornadoes swept across southeast Texas on Thursday. At least five tornadoes have been confirmed, with the National Weather Service expected to provide further details on their strength and exact number. While thankfully no injuries have been reported, dramatic footage captured a small but intense tornado flipping a mail truck on Plumbrook Drive in southwest Houston.
A video of the incident, shared on social media, shows the mail truck overturned. Neighbors confirmed to KPRC 2’s Gage Goulding that the driver escaped unharmed, though efforts are underway to locate and speak with him directly. Goulding is appealing to the public for help in identifying the driver. Additional videos submitted by viewers show what appear to be tornadoes across Southeast Texas, including Liberty County and a possible tornado crossing Lake Houston.
Two homes in southwest Houston sustained damage from a possible brief tornado, and further damage has been reported in Liberty County. The National Weather Service is scheduled to survey the affected areas on Friday to assess the full extent of the damage. Updates will be provided as soon as the information becomes available.
