A Florida dog pulled off a Christmas Eve miracle. Athena, a four-year-old German Shepherd, who had been missing for over a week, returned home at approximately 2:30 AM on Christmas Eve. She announced her arrival in a most unexpected way – by ringing the doorbell. “She came pawing at the door, ringing the doorbell,” Brooke Comer told local television station KSBW. “Which was Christmas Eve. And then that morning I woke up to – she had made it on everybody’s doorbell camera.”
Athena’s disappearance on December 15th had sparked a widespread search effort. Comer explained, “People all the way from Jacksonville and Saint Augustine were inboxing me.” Her unexpected return woke the family. “I tried not to wake up the kids, but they woke up anyway from the excitement,” Comer said.
Although Athena was not microchipped, a detail Comer plans to rectify over the holidays, her miraculous homecoming brought a joyous end to a stressful week.
