Modi to Virtually Open New Hyderabad Rail Terminal

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will virtually inaugurate the new Charlapalli Railway Terminal in Hyderabad on Monday. The inauguration ceremony at the Charlapalli Railway Station will be attended by a distinguished gathering, including Telangana Governor Jishnu Dev Varma, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, and several Union Ministers.

Located on Hyderabad’s eastern side, Charlapalli is the fourth passenger terminal in the Hyderabad-Secunderabad twin cities, aiming to alleviate congestion at the existing Secunderabad, Hyderabad, and Kacheguda terminals. This new terminal, built at a cost of Rs. 413 crore, complements the Lingampalli terminal on the western side, addressing the city’s growing transportation needs. The Charlapalli terminal boasts enhanced capacity, handling an additional 15 pairs of trains with four new high-level platforms and extended existing platforms to accommodate full-length trains. A total of 19 lines now serve the station.

Passenger comfort is a key feature of the new facility. Spacious concourse areas, an illuminated facade, and two foot-over-bridges (one 12 meters wide, connecting platforms directly to the concourse, and another 6 meters wide for inter-platform movement) are complemented by lifts and escalators. The station building itself includes six booking counters, separate waiting halls for men and women, an upper-class waiting area, an executive lounge, a cafeteria, a restaurant, and restroom facilities. All nine platforms are equipped with escalators and lifts to ensure smooth passenger flow. Furthermore, the station includes coach maintenance facilities to support train operations.

To further improve train services and reduce congestion at Secunderabad and Hyderabad stations, South Central Railway has implemented changes. Effective January 7th, the terminal station for trains 12603/12604 (Chennai Central-Hyderabad-Chennai Central) will shift from Hyderabad to Charlapalli. Similarly, train 12589/12590 (Gorakhpur-Secunderabad-Gorakhpur) will now terminate at Charlapalli. Additionally, three express trains—12757/12758 (Secunderabad-Sirpur Kaghaznagar-Secunderabad), 17201/17202 (Guntur-Secunderabad-Guntur), and 17233/17234 (Secunderabad-Sirpur Kaghaznagar-Secunderabad)—have been granted additional stops at Charlapalli.
