Newark Boy, 9, Shot Dead; Family Demands Justice
Nine-Year-Old Boy Fatally Shot in Newark, New Jersey

A nine-year-old boy, Yasin Morrison, was tragically killed in a shooting in Newark, New Jersey, on Friday evening. The incident occurred around 5:30 p.m. on Osborne Terrace as Yasin, his three-year-old sister, and their father were walking to his grandmother’s house. Before reaching the front door, Yasin was struck by gunfire. A second man was also injured in the shooting and is expected to recover.

Yasin’s grandmother, Tisha Bolden, described the devastating scene. She recounted hearing gunshots, followed by screams, and then seeing her son and grandson lying on the ground. Overwhelmed with grief, she pleaded with the perpetrator to turn themselves in, emphasizing that Yasin, a sweet and innocent child, did not deserve this fate. His aunt, Markeida, echoed this sentiment, highlighting the profound impact on Yasin’s young sister, who witnessed the tragedy. The family described Yasin as a loving brother, autistic, and non-verbal, a typical child whose life was unjustly cut short. They recalled his love for “Toy Story,” chicken nuggets, and “The Incredibles,” painting a picture of a vibrant child taken too soon.

Newark Mayor Ras Baraka issued a statement condemning the shooting as “sickening” and vowing to pursue the perpetrator relentlessly. He expressed his outrage and promised that the city would not rest until the individual responsible is apprehended. Authorities are offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to an arrest. The investigation is ongoing, with authorities working to determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting and identify the shooter.
