NYT Sports Connections: January 4 clues & answers

Connections: Sports Edition, a new spin on the popular *New York Times* word game, challenges sports fans to uncover common threads between words. Similar to the original Connections and Wordle, the game resets daily, presenting increasingly difficult word sets. To aid players, hints and tips are provided throughout this article.

If you prefer a direct solution, skip to the end. Otherwise, continue reading for clues and strategies to enhance your gameplay. Developed in collaboration with *The Athletic*, the *New York Times’* sports coverage arm, Connections is accessible on web browsers and mobile devices. The game requires players to group four words sharing a common theme from a selection of sixteen. These words are divided into four color-coded categories (yellow, green, blue, and purple, with difficulty increasing in that order), and only one correct grouping exists for each set. Successful groupings remove the words from the board, while incorrect guesses accumulate as mistakes (up to four are allowed). Players can shuffle the board to aid in identifying connections. Like Wordle, results are shareable on social media.
