Service to be held on Aug. 9 at Maine Veterans Cemetery in Augusta

David Wayne Ayer, 62, of Knightdale, N.C. and Oakland, died on March 23 in Jacksonville, Fla. A service will be held at 1 p.m. on Aug. 9 at the Maine Veterans Cemetery in Augusta, followed by a celebration of life at the Lucky Garden in Hallowell.

Ayer was a loving husband, father, and grandfather

Ayer was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was a kind and generous man who always put others before himself. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

Ayer served in the U.S. Army

Ayer served in the U.S. Army and was a veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a proud member of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Ayer was an avid outdoorsman

Ayer was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping. He was also a skilled woodworker and craftsman.

Ayer is survived by his wife, children, and grandchildren

Ayer is survived by his wife of 42 years, Linda; his children, David Jr. (wife Jennifer), Kimberly (husband John), and Michael (wife Jessica); and his grandchildren, David III, Emily, John Jr., and Sophia.
