Dorothy Marion Durgin, 94, of Brooklyn, N.Y., passed away peacefully at home on March 4, 2023.

Dorothy was born on June 13, 1928, in West Gardiner, Maine, to William and Marion Durgin. She grew up in Maine and graduated from Gardiner High School in 1946. After graduation, she moved to New York City to pursue a career in nursing.

Dorothy worked as a registered nurse for over 40 years. She spent most of her career at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Manhattan, where she was a dedicated and compassionate caregiver. She was a mentor to many young nurses and was known for her kindness and professionalism.

In her retirement, Dorothy enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She was an avid reader and loved to travel. She also enjoyed volunteering at her local church and was active in her community.

Dorothy was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

She is survived by her children, David Durgin of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Susan Durgin of San Francisco, Calif.; her grandchildren, Matthew Durgin of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Emily Durgin of San Francisco, Calif.; and her great-grandchildren, Ethan Durgin and Sophia Durgin of Brooklyn, N.Y.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on June 8, 2023, at Howard Cemetery, corners of Neck/West Roads, West Gardiner.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Nurses Foundation.
