A Life Well-Lived

On March 4, 2024, Dorothy Marion Durgin, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully at her home in Brooklyn, N.Y., surrounded by the warmth and love of her family. She was 94 years old.

Dorothy was born on March 30, 1929, in West Gardiner, Maine, to Arthur and Gladys (Rogers) Durgin. She spent her formative years in a quaint one-room schoolhouse, where she developed a lifelong love of learning. After graduating from Gardiner High School in 1948, Dorothy embarked on a new chapter in her life, moving first to Portland, Maine, and then to Massachusetts.

A Dedicated Career and a Family’s Foundation

Dorothy’s unwavering work ethic and pursuit of excellence were evident throughout her professional life. She dedicated many years to MASS ELECTRIC, where she held a respected position. After retirement, she found fulfillment in volunteering as a poll worker and sharing her passion for writing through classes at The New School in Manhattan.

Above all else, Dorothy cherished her family. She is survived by her devoted daughter, Christine Durgin-Sellitto, and her four beloved grandchildren: Catherina Webster Littlefield, Deane Webster II, Keylo Eager, and Vincent N. Sellitto. Dorothy’s legacy will live on through her great-grandchildren, cousins, nephews, and nieces, all of whom she held dear to her heart.

A Vibrant Spirit Remembered

Dorothy was known for her sharp wit, infectious laughter, and unwavering determination. She faced life’s challenges with resilience and grace, always seeking opportunities for growth and enrichment. Her love of her family and close friends was unwavering, and she cherished every moment spent with them.

In March, a Celebration of Life was held in Brooklyn, N.Y., where loved ones gathered to honor Dorothy’s extraordinary life. On June 8, a graveside memorial will be held at the Howard Cemetery in West Gardiner, Maine, at 1 p.m.

Dorothy Marion Durgin will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her exceptional spirit, unwavering love, and dedication to her family and community will forever be remembered and celebrated.
