Douglas Thorpe, a cherished husband, devoted brother, and loyal friend, passed away on January 11, 2024, at the Port St. Lucie emergency room. His courageous battle has ended, and he has found eternal peace.

Doug was born in Bath, Maine, on February 24, 1928, to loving parents Douglas K. Thorpe Sr. and Marie (Green) Thorpe. He grew up in Fairfield, where he attended local schools and developed a deep connection to his community. Doug’s passion for education and determination led him to Coburn Classical Institute, where he graduated with honors.

A Dedicated Patriot

With a strong sense of duty and patriotism, Doug joined the U.S. Army in 1946 and served honorably until 1947. His experiences during this time instilled in him a profound appreciation for the sacrifices made by those who serve their country.

A Distinguished Businessman

After completing his military service, Doug pursued his higher education at Thomas College. Armed with a degree, he embarked on a successful career in business, establishing Somerset Home Supply. Through his exceptional leadership and commitment to hard work, he built a thriving enterprise that provided employment and support to many individuals in his community.

Cherished Memories

Doug’s unwavering loyalty and compassion extended beyond his professional life. He maintained lifelong friendships with those he met throughout his journey. His genuine kindness and infectious laughter brought joy to the hearts of countless people.

A Devoted Family Man

In the tapestry of Doug’s life, the love for his family shone brightly. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Linda (Berube) Thorpe, with whom he shared nearly 56 years of unwavering love and companionship. Together, they created a home filled with laughter, warmth, and cherished memories.

Doug’s legacy will live on through his sister, Gloria Bangs, and his nephews, Rick, Mark, and Randy Bangs. He will be deeply missed by his extended family and the countless friends who held a special place in his heart.
