Allen C. Petersen, a beloved husband, father, and pillar of the Rosemount community, passed away peacefully in his sleep on August 3, 2024, at the age of 83. Born in Winona, Minnesota in 1941, Allen’s life was a testament to service, adventure, and unwavering enthusiasm.

From his early days as a graduate of Cretin High School in St. Paul to his service in the U.S. Navy, Allen consistently demonstrated his commitment to his country and community. As a dedicated member of the American Legion and the Optimist Club of Eden Prairie, he generously volunteered his time and resources, making a lasting impact on countless lives.

Allen’s passion for aviation knew no bounds. He obtained his commercial, instrument, and multi-engine rated flying license, fulfilling his lifelong dream of soaring through the skies. His love of adventure extended beyond the cockpit, as he embraced the snowbird lifestyle after retiring from his long-standing career at Northwest Airlines, where he served for over 35 years.

A Loving Family Man and Devoted Husband

Allen’s personal life was equally as fulfilling as his professional and community endeavors. He found love and companionship with two remarkable women, first marrying Renee (Johnson) Petersen in 1966 and later Barbara (Parker) Truitt-Petersen in 1989. Together, they shared decades of love, laughter, and cherished memories, celebrating their 35th wedding anniversary just months before Allen’s passing.

As a father, Allen instilled in his sons, Robert and James, the same values of hard work, integrity, and service that had guided his own life. He was an ever-present figure, offering unwavering support and encouragement at every turn.

Allen’s extended family brought him immeasurable joy. He cherished his stepchildren, Cynthia, Ginya, and Jonathan, as well as his numerous grandchildren and great-grandchild. Together, they created a tapestry of memories that will be forever remembered.

A Legacy of Community Involvement and Philanthropy

Beyond his immediate family, Allen’s impact extended throughout the Rosemount community and beyond. He was a dedicated member of Faith United Methodist Church and St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Farmington, Minnesota, where he actively participated in various charitable initiatives.

Allen’s philanthropic spirit extended to the Optimist Club of Eden Prairie, where he served as a tireless volunteer. His unwavering support for the club’s mission to empower youth and improve the community was evident in his countless acts of kindness and generosity.

A Celebration of Life and Service

A funeral service to honor the life and legacy of Allen C. Petersen will be held on Saturday, August 10, 2024, at 11 am at Faith United Methodist Church in Farmington, Minnesota. Visitation will begin at 10 am prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Optimist Club of Eden Prairie, Faith United Methodist Church, or St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Farmington. Interment will take place at Fort Snelling National Cemetery at a later date.
