Charles A. Surprenant, Maine Native, Passes Away in Florida

Charles A. Surprenant, a beloved former resident of Augusta, Maine, passed away peacefully on May 18, 2024, in Melbourne, Florida. He was 85 years old.

A Life Well-Lived

Born and raised in Augusta, Charles was a proud graduate of Cony High School. After graduation, he served his country honorably in the United States Army. Following his military service, Charles returned to Maine and began a successful career in the insurance industry.

Charles was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He married his high school sweetheart, Mary, in 1962, and they spent over 60 happy years together. They raised two children, a son, John, and a daughter, Susan.

Charles was an avid golfer and a longtime member of the Augusta Country Club. He was also a passionate sports fan and enjoyed watching the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots.

A Legacy of Love

Charles will be remembered for his kind and gentle spirit, his quick wit, and his unwavering love for his family and friends. He was a true gentleman and a pillar of the Augusta community.

Charles is survived by his wife, Mary; his children, John (and his wife, Sarah) and Susan (and her husband, David); his grandchildren, Michael, Emily, and William; and his sister, Anne.

Memorial Service

A memorial service to celebrate Charles’s life will be held on August 5, 2024, at 11:00 AM at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Augusta, Maine. A reception will follow at the Augusta Country Club.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Charles’s memory to the American Heart Association or the Alzheimer’s Association.
