Teaching and Career
After graduating from college, Norma embarked on a brief teaching career at Rangeley Lakes Regional School. However, her life took a new turn when she married and started a family in Waterville. For over three decades, Norma dedicated herself to her work at Saunders Manufacturing, where she established strong bonds with her colleagues. She was known for her professionalism, work ethic, and unwavering commitment to the company.
Retirement and Community Involvement
Upon retiring from Saunders Manufacturing in 2011, Norma embraced the next chapter of her life with her characteristic enthusiasm. She spent her newfound free time pursuing her passions, including flea markets, lawn sales, and gardening. Norma had a green thumb and took great pride in her vegetable garden, where she grew an abundance of fresh produce that she generously shared with family and friends.
Norma was also passionate about antiques and could often be found browsing local shops for hidden treasures. Her love of animals, especially her beloved chipmunks, brought her immense joy. She was a regular customer at Sitoo George’s Restaurant in Waterville, where she met Robert “Bob” Laney in 1984. Bob became Norma’s lifelong love and companion, and their relationship would span nearly four decades until her passing.
