Slichter was born in Mohnton, Pennsylvania, on January 1, 1934, to Raymond A. and Rachael E. (Marks) Slichter Boyer. Growing up in a modest home, he attended Mohnton High School, where he excelled academically and found his passion for the plumbing and heating trade. Upon graduating in 1951, he embarked on his professional journey, working diligently to become a Master Plumber.
Proud Service in the U.S. Navy
Slichter’s patriotism and sense of duty led him to enlist in the U.S. Navy after graduating high school. With unwavering courage and determination, he served his country with distinction during the Korean War. His service instilled in him a deep sense of discipline, loyalty, and unwavering commitment to the values he held dear.
Successful Career in Plumbing and Heating
After completing his military service, Slichter returned to his passion for plumbing and heating. With unwavering determination and an unyielding work ethic, he worked his way up the ranks, eventually owning and operating Earl Sands Plumbing from 1981 until his retirement in 1997. In his retirement years, Slichter found joy and fulfillment in golfing and spending time with his family. He and his beloved wife, Ferne A. (Messner) Slichter, enjoyed numerous vacations to Florida, creating lasting memories with their loved ones. Slichter remained actively involved in his community, serving as a dedicated member of the Wyomissing U.C.C. in Gouglersville for over 50 years. His contributions to the church and his unwavering faith served as a testament to his commitment to his community and his spiritual beliefs.
Cherished Family and Enduring Legacy
Slichter’s greatest joy came from his loving family. He is survived by his wife, Ferne A., and two children, Priscilla A., wife of Daniel J. Kiefer, III, of Mohrsville, and Gretajo, wife of Carl J. Fricker, of Arizona. He also leaves behind beloved grandchildren: Derrick Thomason, Daniel J. Kiefer, IV, Rachel A., wife of David Grean, and Brock E. Sheets. Each family member holds a special place in their hearts for the unwavering love, support, and guidance he provided throughout their lives.
Funeral Arrangements and Tributes
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Ronald R. Slichter’s funeral service on Thursday, June 13, 2024, at 10:30 A.M. at Giles & Yeckley Funeral Home and Crematorium, Inc., 21 Chestnut Street, Mohnton. A viewing will be held on Thursday from 9:30 to 10:30 A.M. at the funeral home. Interment with military honors will follow at Mohnsville Cemetery, Mohnton. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Wyomissing U.C.C., 2 Vermont Road, Sinking Spring, PA 19608.
