Obituary: Gail Anne McKenney
Skowhegan, Maine – Gail Anne McKenney, a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully at her home on July 22, 2024, at the age of 83.
Early Life and Education
Born on January 26, 1941, in Harmony, Maine, Gail was the youngest child of Marshall and Neva (Frost) Folsom. She attended Harmony High School, where she graduated in 1959 as a proud Husky.
Marriage and Family
On August 14, 1959, Gail married the love of her life, Carl A. McKenney. Together, they made Skowhegan their forever home, where they raised their seven children: Vanessa, Terri, Pamela, Sheila, Kim, Michael, and the late Carl Jr.
Professional Journey
Throughout her life, Gail held various jobs, including at Norwalk Shoe, Dexter Shoe, and Skills, Inc. She dedicated many years to her work, always striving to provide for her family.
Hobbies and Interests
In her spare time, Gail pursued her passions for painting, quilting, and knitting. She was renowned for her beautiful artwork and crafted countless mittens for her loved ones.
Retirement and Adventure
Upon retiring, Gail and Carl enjoyed the fruits of their labor. They embarked on road trips around Maine, spent summers camping in Greenville, and cherished the time they had with their family.
Legacy and Surviving Family
Gail’s memory lives on through her children: Vanessa (Richard) Jordan, Terri Gerard, Pamela Hanscom, Sheila McKenney, Kim Mercier, and Michael (Tammy) McKenney; her grandchildren: Ryan Wing, Sean Wing, Katelyn Hanscom, Riley Mercier, Owen Mercier, Michael McKenney, Dustin McKenney, and Kayla Atwood; and her great-grandchildren: Finnegan, Avery, Parker, Trent, Oliver, and Brantley.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Carl; son, Carl Jr.; son-in-law, John Hanscom; parents, Marshall and Neva Folsom; siblings: Gerald, Elmer, Stanley, Winona, Kaye, Raye; and in-laws: Bernard and Virginia McKenney, David and Lillian McKenney, Robert and Donna McKenney, and Donald Tozier.
Celebration of Life
In honor of Gail’s life, an open-house style Celebration of Life will be held at her home at 7 Woodside Drive, Skowhegan, on Sunday, August 25, 2024, from 12-3 p.m.
