It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Gerard Arthur Corbin, known lovingly as Gerry, who passed away peacefully in Plano, Texas, on June 25, 2024, at the age of 82. Surrounded by his adoring children, he left an enduring legacy of love, laughter, and unwavering dedication.

Early Life and Education

Gerry was born into a loving family on August 1, 1941, in the charming town of Grand Isle, Maine. He grew up in Waterville, where he attended Waterville High School and excelled as a talented athlete on both the baseball and basketball teams.

Continuing his academic journey, Gerry enrolled at Colby College, where he distinguished himself as a dedicated student. His exceptional intellect and thirst for knowledge were recognized when he was admitted to the highly prestigious Phi Beta Kappa honor society.

Marriage and Family

In 1963, Gerry’s life took a blissful turn when he married the love of his life, Helen Fortin. Together, they shared 46 years of unwavering love and companionship, raising a beautiful family in various cities across the country.

Gerry and Helen welcomed two cherished children into their lives: Susan, who blessed them with two adorable grandchildren, David and Corbin, and John, who carried on the family’s legacy in the Pacific Northwest.

Career and Accomplishments

Gerry embarked on a successful career in the insurance industry, joining the esteemed Fireman’s Fund Insurance Company. His dedication and hard work propelled him through the ranks, ultimately ascending to the position of Regional Claims Manager.

Gerry’s exceptional abilities were recognized early on in his career when he achieved the prestigious CPCU (Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter) designation. His outstanding performance on the challenging exams was so remarkable that he was invited to teach a CPCU prep course at the University of Connecticut, sharing his knowledge with aspiring insurance professionals.

Retirement and Legacy

After decades of dedicated service, Gerry retired in 2003, embarking on a new chapter of his life. He and Helen settled in Dallas, Texas, where they enjoyed spending quality time together and welcoming their growing family for visits.

Gerry Corbin’s legacy extends far beyond his professional accomplishments. He was a devoted husband, a loving father, and a cherished grandfather. His warmth, humor, and unwavering support touched the lives of everyone who knew him.

Memorial Service

A memorial service will be held in Gerry’s honor on Tuesday, August 6, 2024, at 10:00 AM at Notre Dame Church, located at 116 Silver Street, Waterville, Maine. Friends and family are invited to gather and celebrate Gerry’s extraordinary life.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the American Heart Association in Gerry’s memory.

Gerry Arthur Corbin will be deeply missed by his beloved children, Susan and John, his cherished grandchildren, David and Corbin, his siblings Ronald and Norman, his sisters-in-law, numerous nieces, nephews, and countless friends and colleagues who had the privilege of knowing him.
