Roman Josi Wins Silver, Named Best Defenseman at 2024 IIHF World Championship Tournament
Roman Josi’s quest for Switzerland’s first gold medal at the IIHF World Championship tournament came up just short, but the Nashville Predators captain did not leave Prague empty-handed.
Despite falling to Czechia by a 2-0 final in the gold-medal game on Sunday, Josi helped his native country to its fourth silver medal in team history and second in the last six years.
Josi’s Silver Medal is His Third at the World Championship Tournament
The silver medal was Josi’s third at the World Championship tournament, adding to his previous medals in 2013 and 2018.
In addition to his team success, Josi also had a standout individual tournament.
Josi Leads All Blueliners in Assists and Points
He finished his ninth World Championship appearance leading all blueliners in assists (9) and points (12) – both personal highs and the most- and second-most among his teammates, respectively.
Josi’s offensive production was key for Switzerland throughout the tournament, as he helped set up several key goals.
Josi Named Tournament’s Best Defenseman and Voted to All-Star Team
In recognition of his outstanding play, Josi was named the tournament’s best defenseman and voted to its All-Star team.
It is the second time that Josi has been named the tournament’s best defenseman, having previously won the award in 2015.
Josi’s performance at the 2024 IIHF World Championship tournament was a reminder of his status as one of the best defensemen in the world.
He will now return to Nashville and prepare for the upcoming NHL season, where he will look to lead the Predators to their first Stanley Cup championship.
