Alvie “Sonny” Powell, a cherished member of the Scottsboro community, passed away on Sunday, June 2, 2024, at the age of 82. His passing has left a deep void in the hearts of his family, friends, and the countless lives he touched.

Mr. Powell will lie in state at the funeral home on Friday from 12:00 PM until 2:00 PM. Interment will follow at Mt. Zion Cemetery in Vinemont.

Alvie “Sonny” Powell was born on February 25, 1942, to Alvie J. Powell and Annie Stewart Powell. Throughout his life, he faced challenges with unwavering resilience and a heart filled with love. Despite being diagnosed with cerebral palsy at a young age, he lived a fulfilling and meaningful life, touching the lives of everyone he encountered.

Mr. Powell had a unique gift for bringing joy and laughter to those around him. His innocent nature and playful spirit were contagious, leaving an everlasting impression on his family, friends, and community. He will be deeply missed by his surviving brother, Jack Powell and wife Geraldine, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and the extended family at Volunteers of America.

Mr. Powell’s unwavering spirit was evident in his unwavering love for his family. For over 50 years, he shared a special bond with his grandmother, taking care of her and providing her with unwavering support. Their love and companionship served as a pillar of strength for both of them.
