A Life Remembered
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Irene Hill, a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend who passed away peacefully on May 25, 2024, at Glenridge Long Term Care in Augusta. She was 87 years old.
Born on July 27, 1936, in Augusta, Maine, Irene spent her early years surrounded by love and laughter. She was the daughter of Perley and Reta (Saunders) LeClair. Irene’s upbringing instilled in her the values of compassion, generosity, and a strong work ethic that she carried throughout her life.
In 1957, Irene married Rodney Hill, and together they embarked on a beautiful journey as husband and wife. Their love and commitment to each other remained unwavering until Rodney’s passing in 2011.
A Devoted Mother and Grandmother
Irene’s greatest joy in life was her family. She dedicated herself to raising her five children: Joyce, Debra, Brenda, Bradford, and Nancy. Irene’s love for her children was boundless, and she cherished every moment spent with them.
As a grandmother, Irene’s heart swelled with love for her 11 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. She delighted in their laughter, accomplishments, and shared countless special moments with each of them.
A Community Advocate
Beyond her family, Irene was a pillar in her community. She was an active member of the Augusta Area Jaycees and volunteered her time at the Augusta Hospital and the Cohen Center. Irene’s passion for helping others extended to her work at the Board of Voter Registration in Gardiner and Rodrigue Eye Center.
Irene was a deeply spiritual woman and found solace and guidance in her faith. She was a member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, Church of Christ, and Water of Life Church.
A Legacy of Kindness
Those who knew Irene will remember her for her infectious smile, warm heart, and unwavering kindness. She had a gift for making everyone feel loved and valued. Irene’s legacy of love, compassion, and service to others will continue to inspire those around her.
A Farewell with Love
Irene Hill’s life was a testament to the power of love, family, and community. She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
A graveside service will be held on June 18 at 1 p.m. at Kling Cemetery, 595 West River Road, Augusta. A celebration of Irene’s life will follow at Le Club Calumet, 334 West River Road, Augusta.
