Searsmont, Maine – The Searsmont community and beyond is mourning the passing of Jenness L. Robbins, a respected leader in the lumber industry and a dedicated servant to his community. Robbins, 85, passed away peacefully on May 3, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.
### A Lifetime in the Lumber Industry
Born and raised in Searsmont, Robbins dedicated his life to the lumber industry. He and his brother, Jim Robbins, owned and operated Robbins Lumber Company, where Jenness served as president for 27 years. His unwavering commitment to the business earned him recognition and accolades, including the Albert Nutting Award for Outstanding Leadership (2004) and the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Retail Lumber Dealers Association of Maine (2019).
### Community Involvement and Philanthropy
Beyond his business endeavors, Robbins was passionately involved in his community. He served on the MSAD #34 School Board, the Board of Directors of Farm Credit, Inc., and as President of the Board of Directors of Waldo County Healthcare, Inc. His tireless efforts also extended to the construction of the Searsmont Community Center and the Fire House.

Robbins was not only a successful businessman and community leader but also a generous philanthropist. He quietly assisted individuals in need, leaving behind numerous acts of kindness that impacted countless lives. Outside of his professional and civic commitments, Robbins was an avid outdoors enthusiast. He enjoyed fly fishing, hunting, and exploring the Maine woods. His love for nature extended to being a meticulous steward of the land, ensuring its preservation for future generations.
### A Legacy of Love and Family
Most importantly, Robbins was a devoted family man. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Carol Barr Robbins; his children Amy Robbins-Wilson, Lorie Kulbe, and Susan Robbins; and stepchildren Jon, Thomas, and Jennifer Barr and Robert Kulis. His extended family includes grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and numerous friends who held him dear.
### A Celebration of Life
In October 2023, Robbins’ family and friends gathered for a Living Celebration of Life, where they honored his extraordinary life with a parade, heartfelt speeches, and an outpouring of love. Robbins was deeply touched by this heartfelt tribute and the countless expressions of appreciation for his contributions to the community.
### Honoring His Memory
Those who wish to honor Robbins’ legacy can donate to the Jenness and Carol Robbins Fund at the University of Maine Foundation. The fund supports the health and safety of the elderly and those in need in the Town of Searsmont.
