Obituary: Joan Stella Angelo, Devoted Matriarch and Friend
Joan Stella Angelo, a devoted matriarch and beloved friend, passed away peacefully on June 11, 2024, just days shy of her 91st birthday. Surrounded by her loving family at her home in Paso Robles, California, she succumbed to natural causes.
Early Life and Family
Joan was born on June 15, 1933, in Lowell, Massachusetts, to William B. Kolek, Sr. and Catherine (Kaczmarski) Kolek. She was the second of six children, raised in a close-knit family in the city’s vibrant Polish community. From a young age, Joan displayed a warm and nurturing spirit, becoming a beloved sibling and friend.
Journey to California
In the early 1970s, Joan relocated to California, first to El Toro and then to San Jose, to raise her family. While working at ITT Jennings in San Jose, she met the love of her life, Jess Angelo. Their marriage in 1987 marked a new chapter in her life, filled with love, companionship, and adventure.
Later Years and Retirement
After many years of marriage, Joan and Jess retired to New Hampshire. In 1987, they decided to fully retire in the sunshine of California, where they enjoyed their golden years. Joan became an active member of her local community, volunteering her time and making cherished connections.
Surviving Family and Legacy
Joan is survived by her four sons: William “Bill” McGadden (Kathy) of Montrose, Pennsylvania; Charles “Chuck” McGadden (Anna) of San Carlos, California; Robert “Bob” McGadden (Gabi) of Marysville, Washington; Scott McGadden (Nicole) of West Hills, California. She was also a devoted grandmother to six loving grandchildren.
In addition to her immediate family, Joan is mourned by her five siblings: Frances Buonanni (Henry), William Kolek Jr. (Beverly), Regina Bolduc (Lorna Arcand), Ronald Kolek (Janet), Douglas Kolek (Susan). She leaves behind countless nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews. Joan’s beloved rescue dog, Ammo, will also miss her dearly.
Mass of Remembrance
A Mass of Remembrance will be held on Monday, August 12th, at 9:00 AM at Saint William of York Church, located at 1351 Main Street in Tewksbury, Massachusetts. Family and friends are warmly invited to attend and celebrate Joan’s remarkable life.
Joan’s passing leaves a void in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. Her unwavering love, infectious laughter, and unwavering spirit will be deeply missed. May her memory forever be a source of inspiration and comfort to those she touched.
