Early Life and Career

Leighton was born on August 19, 1940, in Richmond, Maine, to Weston and Mable Carver. His passion for the environment and community service manifested at a young age, and he dedicated his life to these pursuits.

After graduating from Richmond High School, Leighton embarked on a distinguished career with the Maine Department of Environmental Protection (DEP). For over 30 years, he served as the Director of Field Services, where he played a pivotal role in protecting and preserving the state’s natural resources.

Community Involvement

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Leighton was deeply involved in the Richmond community. He was a dedicated member of the Masonic Lodge in Bowdoinham and served on various town boards and committees, including the Richmond Fire Department. His tireless efforts and unwavering commitment to the well-being of his neighbors left a lasting impact on the town he called home.

Personal Life and Legacy

Leighton shared a remarkable 55-year marriage with his beloved wife, Linda, who preceded him in death. Together, they raised three children: Mike, Bruce, and Cathy, who sadly passed away before her father. Leighton was a devoted grandfather to seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, who brought immense joy to his life.

In his spare time, Leighton enjoyed gardening, cycling, and walking. He had a particular fondness for lawn sales and cherished spending time with his family and friends.
