Lois E. Murphy, Retired Tewksbury School Teacher, Passes Away at 78

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Lois E. (Jacobson) Murphy, a beloved retired Tewksbury school teacher, who passed away peacefully on June 5, 2024, at the age of 78.

A Dedicated Educator

Lois dedicated her life to educating the children of Tewksbury. She began her teaching career at the Jenkins Elementary School, where she taught for over 20 years. During her tenure, she was known for her passion for learning and her ability to connect with her students. She was a true believer in the power of education and made a significant impact on the lives of countless young people.

In recognition of her outstanding contributions to the field of education, Lois was awarded the Tewksbury Teacher of the Year Award in 1995. She retired from teaching in 2010, but her love of learning never ceased.

A Devoted Family

Outside of her teaching career, Lois was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She was married to her beloved husband, Eugene H. Murphy, Jr., for over 50 years. Together, they raised three children: Heidi L. Green, Eric E. Murphy, and Scott E. Murphy. Lois was a loving and supportive mother who always put her family first.

In her later years, Lois found great joy in spending time with her grandson, Soren K. Murphy. She was an active part of his life and cherished every moment they had together.

A Passionate Animal Lover

Lois had a deep love for animals, especially dogs. She was a longtime supporter of the MSPCA-Nevins Farm and volunteered her time whenever she could. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in her memory be made to the MSPCA-Nevins Farm.

Memorial Services

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, June 12th from 9-11 a.m. at the Farmer & Dee Funeral Home, 16 Lee St., Tewksbury. A procession to Lowell Cemetery will follow, where a graveside service will be held at 11:30 a.m.

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at the Tewksbury Hospital for their compassionate care during Lois’s final days.

Lois E. Murphy will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and the entire Tewksbury community. Her legacy as a dedicated educator, loving family member, and passionate animal lover will live on forever.
