Obituary: Lori A. Henry, a Beloved Educator and Mentor
Lori A. Henry, age 64, of New Brighton, Minnesota, passed away on July 27, 2024, after a courageous battle with bile duct liver cancer.
Lori was born on September 21, 1959, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, to Robert and Jean Henry. She graduated from Spring Lake Park High School in 1977 and went on to earn her Bachelor of Science degree in Family and Consumer Science Education from the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities, in 1981.
Lori began her teaching career at Spring Lake Park Senior High School in 1982. She was a dedicated and passionate educator who inspired countless students throughout her nearly 40 years of service. Lori taught a variety of Family and Consumer Science courses, including culinary arts, child development, and family and consumer economics.
Lori was an active member of the Minnesota Family and Consumer Sciences Education Association (MNFCS) and the American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences (AAFCS). She served in various leadership roles at both the state and national levels. In 2021, she was honored as the National Teacher of the Year by the AAFCS.
Lori’s commitment to her students extended beyond the classroom. She was a mentor and role model for many young people, helping them to develop their leadership skills and to prepare for their future careers. Lori’s students consistently excelled in their studies and went on to achieve success in a variety of fields.
In addition to her teaching career, Lori was an avid sports fan and enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She was a devoted member of Christiana Lutheran Church and was actively involved in the community.
Lori is survived by her sister, Sherri Henry Mullery (Terry), and a host of extended family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Jean Henry.
Funeral services for Lori will be held on Monday, August 5, 2024, at Christiana Lutheran Church in Lakeville, Minnesota. Visitation will begin at 9:30 AM, with the funeral service starting at 11:00 AM. A lunch reception will follow the service, and the internment will take place at West Christiana Cemetery at 1:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Lori Henry Memorial Scholarship Fund. Checks may be made payable to Minnesota FCCLA with “Scholarship Fund” written in the memo and mailed to P. O. Box 121386, Roseville, MN 55113.
